We are designing the HazMat 2008 conference program for all members of the fire department, therefore, we encourage program submissions that are geared toward all levels of service including:
- Fire Chiefs
- HazMat Chiefs
- Battalion/Division/District Chiefs
- Deputy/Assistant Chiefs
- Training Chiefs
- Company-Level Officers
- Emergency Managers
- Homeland Security Directors
- HazMat Technicians
- Firefighters

Submission Types
You may submit topics to be considered as one of the following formats: a pre-conference workshop, a conference field trip, a conference session or a general session. Please see descriptions below.
Pre-Conference Workshops
These workshops will be held on Thursday, May 29. Typically sessions are scheduled as ½ day (4 hour) or full day (8 hour) sessions.
Conference Field Trips
These events may be held throughout the conference. Typically these are four - eight hour sessions in which the group offering to host the field trip organizes a tour or activity for the audience. The Field Trip host is responsible for providing a meal or snack to the group depending on the length of the activity. Upon approval, IAFC staff will work with the host to arrange for bus services and other logistics.
Conference Sessions
These sessions will be held May 29 - May 31 and can be structured to last 1.5 hours, 3 hours or 8 hours. Up to Ten sessions will run concurrently in 2-3 timeslots per day.
Keynote - General Sessions
These sessions will be held May 30 - June 1 and are structured to address the entire audience at the conference. These sessions should be no longer than 1 hour and will be combined with other addresses to make up our general sessions.
Session Evaluation and Selection
The HazMat Conference program planning committee will review all submissions and select sessions based on relevance and timeliness of the content and the qualifications of the presenter.

The IAFC and the HazMat Conference Program Planning Committee appreciate the value that each presenter’s expertise and participation brings to the conference.
As a presenter, the IAFC is pleased to offer you the following:
- Complimentary Full-Conference Registration including access to all sessions and the exhibit hall
- Complimentary Conference Bag & Materials
- Assistance in booking discounted airfare and hotel accommodations.
- A $50 Stipend for your time and incidental travel expenses
In addition, speakers who are selected for more than one session will be eligible for additional conference support and will be notified as such upon acceptance.
Submission Specifications
- Submission of a proposal does not guarantee participation in HazMat 2008.
- Please do not submit a proposal if you and your co-presenters are not available to present on any day of HazMat 2008. General Sessions will be held on May 29 - June 1, 2008. Conference sessions will be held on May 29 through June 1, 2008. Pre-conference workshops will be held on May 29, 2008.
- You must include complete contact information on your submission form. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
- If the submission is selected, IAFC reserves the right to revise program titles and edit the program summary for promotional materials associated with the HazMat Conference.
- If the submission is selected, information regarding important deadlines and requirements will be provided.
You will be automatically informed of the unique ID numbers and passwords assigned to this session on the screen and via email. Each session you present will receive an individual ID number and password and may be viewed and modified at any time between submission and the deadline. You will be notified if your session selection status by Friday, November 30, 2007.
